Easy for an adult or older child to open. Perhaps not ideal for some households.

Ordered this to replace a broken window restrictor that I’d repaired a few years ago and it was functionally fine but didn’t look that great. Prior to that another had irreparably broken and was replaced with a neat-looking device that required moderate strength and a bit of a knack to release. Both windows are classed as upstairs emergency exits and open fully wide if unrestricted. Due to the emergency exit role it is important that the restrictors are not too difficult to open. This cable device is fine. It’s easy for an adult or older child to open but younger children, I’d have thought probably if under 5, would not manage even if they’d seen how it’s done.It looks good and I like the fact that there are plastic screw covers. Seems well made.Bear in mind that locking and unlocking moves one end of the cable, in effect altering its length (longer/shorter depending on position) so don’t fix it so short that you can’t lock/unlock it!For £9.99 I think it’s reasonable value.

Such a handy and simple to fit window restrictor.

Such a handy and simple to fit window restrictor. We've used window restrictors at our last couple of properties, as they've been ground floor properties or bungalows.Using these means that we can sleep at night with our windows partially open for ventilation. We have every confidence in them, and they're so easy to fit. This one doesn't even use a key to lock or unlock, so no messing around looking for keys either.Recommended.

Solid and Reliable, Great for Child Safety but a Little Stiff

I bought the Locking Cable Window Restrictor to improve window security in our home, particularly to keep the windows safe for the kids. We have some low windows that open wide, so a restrictor like this seemed essential. I also didn’t want the hassle of dealing with keys every time I wanted to open a window, so the keyless thumbturn design appealed to me.The lock feels really durable and well-made. The black finish looks sleek and fits in nicely with the window frames, blending in rather than standing out. It’s easy to see that it’s built to last. Once installed, it gives peace of mind knowing that the kids can’t fully open the windows, and it restricts the opening enough to allow for ventilation without any danger.Installation was fairly straightforward, though it did take a little bit of measuring to get it positioned just right. The instructions were clear, and I didn’t have any issues getting it set up. The thumbturn is a good feature, especially for convenience, as it’s easy to lock and unlock without needing a key. That said, I found the mechanism to be a bit stiff at first. The thumbturn requires a fair bit of force to lock and unlock the restrictor, so it took a bit of getting used to. After using it for a while, it has loosened up a bit, but I still find it slightly tough, especially if you’re in a rush or need to open the window quickly. For what it’s designed for, it works brilliantly. It’s a strong lock, and I feel confident that it would be difficult for anyone to force the window beyond the restricted opening. It’s ideal for child safety, and I’d recommend it to any parents looking to secure their windows.Overall, I’m happy with the product. It’s sturdy, looks good, and does the job well, but just be aware that the thumbturn might be a bit stiff initially.
