How to Install

Disclaimer: These instructions are for fitting or replacing a surface-mounted door security chain on an internal or external door. Ensure the door and frame are in good condition before starting.

What's Included:

• 1 x Door chain assembly
• 1 x Keep plate
• Fixing screws

What's Required:
Screwdriver
Pencil
Drill with a suitable drill bit (for pilot holes)
Tape measure or ruler

Installation Steps
1. Choose the Mounting Position:

• With the door closed, decide where you would like to fit the door chain.
• The chain is typically installed near the top of the door, on the side opposite the hinges.
• Ensure both parts can be reached comfortably when the door is closed.

2. Position the Chain Plate:

• Hold the chain plate against the inside face of the door.
• Check that the chain hangs freely and will comfortably reach the door frame.
• Using a pencil, mark the fixing hole positions.

3. Position the Keep Plate:

• Hold the keep plate against the door frame so it aligns with the chain.
• Check that the chain can be easily engaged and released when the door is closed.
• Mark the fixing hole positions with a pencil.

4. Drill Pilot Holes:

• Remove both components.
• Drill small pilot holes at the marked positions to help guide the screws and prevent the timber from splitting.

5. Secure the Chain Plate:

• Position the chain plate back onto the door.
• Insert the fixing screws and tighten until secure.

6. Secure the Keep Plate:

• Position the keep plate onto the door frame.
• Insert the fixing screws and tighten until secure.

7. Test the Door Chain:

• Close the door and engage the chain.
• Carefully open the door to ensure the chain restricts the opening as intended.
• Release and reconnect the chain several times to check it operates smoothly.
• Make any minor adjustments if required.

Final Note:

You've now successfully installed your door security chain.

Always check that all screws remain secure over time and test the chain regularly to ensure it continues to operate correctly.
