How to Install
Fitting Instructions: Standard Escutcheon (Keyhole Cover)
Disclaimer: These instructions are for fitting or replacing standard escutcheons on a door with an existing mortice lock. Ensure the area is clean and free from dust before starting.
What's Included:
• 1 x Pair of escutcheons (internal & external)
• Fixing screws
What's Required:
Screwdriver
Pencil
Drill (optional for pilot holes)
Tape measure or ruler
Installation Steps
1. Check Lock Position:
• Confirm that a mortice lock is already fitted in the door.
• Ensure the keyhole is correctly positioned and accessible.
2. Prepare the Escutcheons:
• If your escutcheons have a removable cover (rose), unscrew it to access the fixing holes.
• To make this easier, hold pliers or similar tool through the keyhole opening to keep the escutcheon steady while unscrewing the cover.
3. Position the Escutcheons:
• Place one escutcheon over the keyhole on each side of the door.
• Ensure both are centred and aligned neatly with the keyway.
4. Align & Level:
• Hold both escutcheons in place and check they are straight and level.
• Adjust as needed to achieve a neat finish.
5. Mark Fixing Points:
• Using a pencil, mark the fixing hole positions through the escutcheons onto the door.
6. Drill Pilot Holes (If Required):
• Remove the escutcheons.
• Drill small pilot holes at the marked positions to guide the screws and prevent splitting.
7. Secure the Escutcheons:
• Place the escutcheons back over the keyhole.
• Insert the screws and tighten until secure.
• Reattach the cover/rose if applicable.
8. Test the Fit:
• Insert the key into the lock and check it moves freely without obstruction.
• Make any small adjustments if needed.
Final Note:
You’ve now successfully installed your escutcheons. Ensure they are secure and correctly aligned before regular use.
