How to Install
Fitting Instructions: Bathroom Turn & Release
Disclaimer: These instructions are for replacing an existing bathroom turn and release on a door where a bathroom mortice lock or deadbolt is already installed. Ensure the area is clean and free from dust before starting.
What's Included:
• 1 x Thumbturn (internal side)
• 1 x Emergency release (external side)
• Spindle
• Bolt-through fixing screws (recommended for secure installation)
• Surface-mounted fixing screws
Note: Both fixing options are provided. For a stronger and more durable installation, we recommend using the bolt-through fixings where possible.
What's Required:
Screwdriver
Drill with appropriate drill bit (for bolt-through holes if required)
Pencil
Tape measure or ruler
Installation Steps
1. Check Existing Lock:
• Confirm that a bathroom mortice lock or deadbolt is already fitted in the door.
• Check that it operates smoothly before continuing.
2. Remove Existing Turn & Release:
• Unscrew the existing thumbturn and emergency release from both sides of the door.
• Remove the old spindle from the lock.
3. Insert the New Spindle:
• Insert the new spindle through the hole in the door, ensuring it passes through the lock mechanism.
4. Position & Align the Turn & Release:
• Place the thumbturn on the inside of the door.
• Place the emergency release on the outside.
• Hold both in position and ensure they sit straight and level.
5. Mark Fixing Points:
• Using a pencil, mark the fixing holes through the plates onto the door.
• If using bolt-through fixings, mark the bolt-through holes for a secure installation.
6. Remove & Drill Pilot Holes:
• Carefully remove both parts from the door.
• Drill pilot holes at the marked positions.
• Ensure holes are straight and clean to allow fixings to pass through easily.
7. Reassemble & Secure:
• Reinsert the spindle through the lock.
• Position both sides of the turn and release onto the spindle.
• Secure using either the bolt-through fixings or surface-mounted screws.
• Tighten with a screwdriver until everything feels secure.
8. Test the Function:
• Turn the thumbturn to check that the lock engages and disengages smoothly.
• Test the emergency release from the outside using a coin or flat object.
• Make any small adjustments if needed.
